Safari Beta 3.0.1 for Windows

Posted by Maciej Stachowiak on Friday, June 15th, 2007 at 2:05 am

As you may have heard by now, we released a 3.0.1 version of the Safari 3 Beta. This version includes fixes for some Windows-specific security issues.

We’re continuing to monitor feedback on the beta from the web, forums and bug reports. If you have issues to report on the Safari 3 Beta for Windows or Mac OS X, the best things to do are:

We appreciate all your testing and will continue to make Safari and WebKit better.

As a side note, now that Safari for Windows is public, I can let you know that we are looking to hire additional QA and development engineers, particularly with Windows experience. If you’re interested, send a resume to Apple or contact anyone on the Apple Safari/WebKit team directly.

    Everyone knows that Windows software isn’t any good until at least version 3.1 anyway :)

    Is using the bug report button on the Safari toolbar itself effective? Or should I be using one of the three options above?

  3. maciej Says:

    @mjs (whoah, feels weird typing that)

    The bug report button tends to give us less info than a well-written bug report, and it takes longer to mine that information. If you can follow the guidelines here: http://webkit.org/quality/bugwriting.html then one of the options above will be more useful.

    Safari still crashes with a memory could not be read on my stationary computer. On my laptop it crashes every time that i click on the bookmark or try to add a bookmark. It also crashes when I typed in something in a field that I already written before (autocomplete crashing?).

    @José Jeria:
    To get rid of the crashes from forms, try disabling all autofill options in the preferences (Edit->Preferences).

    To get rid of the crashes every time you try to use the bookmarks try to go through all subdirectories of c:\program files\Safari and copy each en.lproj and English lproj to the corresponding names in your region setting from the windows control panel (in windows vista this means clicking through lots of security dialogs).

    For example, if you have Spanish set as your region (just guessing here :) ) I think that would mean to copy
    en.lproj -> es.lproj
    English.lproj -> Spanish.lproj
    (at least this worked with my swedish Vista box, copying to Swedish.lproj and sv.lproj). I’m not sure if you actually need to do this for *every* folder, but I’ve not tried otherwise.
